Today, May 22, 2025, marks a legendary moment in the history of cryptocurrency: Bitcoin Pizza Day. This date commemorates the first-ever documented purchase using Bitcoin, when two pizzas were bought for 10,000 BTC back in 2010. What began as a simple transaction has turned into a symbol of how far Bitcoin and the crypto world have come.
At the time of writing, Bitcoin has hit an all-time high of $111,584. That’s a long way from its humble beginnings.
Here’s a quick look at how far we’ve come:
Year | BTC Price on May 22 |
---|---|
2025 | $111,584 |
2024 | $70,190 |
2023 | $26,774 |
2022 | $29,492 |
2021 | $37,340 |
2020 | $9,060 |
2019 | $7,958 |
2018 | $8,355 |
2017 | $2,109 |
2016 | $439 |
2015 | $241 |
2014 | $523 |
2013 | $123 |
2012 | $5.10 |
2011 | $6.12 |
2010 | $0.004 |
Those two pizzas in 2010 would be worth over a billion dollars today. It’s a powerful reminder of how early use cases can evolve into global movements.
While it’s not an official holiday, Bitcoin Pizza Day holds real meaning for the crypto community. It represents a turning point when Bitcoin moved from theory to practice and became a real-world currency.
To celebrate, I attended PizzaFi APAC Blockchain Day, an event that brought together the Web3 community in full force. The ABCD (APAC Blockchain Day) event, hosted by ABCD with OTG, PLSLAH, and CH90 as co-hosts, brought together passionate builders, developers, and innovators focused on shaping the future of Web3. Filled with panel discussions and workshops, it sparked lively conversations about decentralization, innovation, and community.
Around 7:10 pm, I arrived at VSING Mi Bar in Sri Petaling. The event was held on the 2nd floor below Lao Qing Chao Restaurant.
Upon arrival, I received a lucky draw ticket along with some wristbands.
However, most of the food was already gone by the time I got there, and the waiter informed me that no refills were available.
The event was packed with people, and when I arrived, MoonX was giving a presentation and signing an MOU, as shown in the pictures below.
Next came the lucky draw session where prizes included T-BOX items worth $100, $500, and $1,000.
During the announcement of the grand prize, the $1,000 T-BOX, a girl approached me asking if her number had been called because she did not understand English. She was a Chinese speaker and the announcer was speaking in English. By coincidence, her number was indeed called and she won the first prize. I quickly encouraged her to go on stage to claim her prize.
I didn’t stay late at the event and just had my dinner at Lim Fried Chicken in Sri Petaling. Feel free to support this KL Web3 page by using my Binance referral code below.
